Nov. 28 — It’s Cathy from Rough Draft with my weekly newsletter on Tucker. Well, we survived Thanksgiving, and I hope you found joy in the day, no matter where you were, who you were with, and what you overate.
As we are technically off for the holidays, this newsletter will be short and sweet. First, a few items for your paper calendar.

DeKalb makes a pitch for retaining police services
The opinion was based on data and insights provided by DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, Interim Police Chief Gregory Padrick, and COO Zach Williams during the Nov. 20 meeting, which was hosted by Tucker Civic Association.
The DeKalb County officials shared details with about 30 residents and Tucker officials about current crime trends, future and current technology resolutions to crime, and plans to have more staff and vehicles in the area to protect Tucker homes and businesses.

A sign of the times
The city council approved a contract for the construction of gateway signage, which will be built by Hasbun Construction. The city’s first such signage will be placed at 2949 Lawrenceville Hwy., which is near the entrance to Interstate 285.
The two-sided, metal sign will have up-lights and landscaping, including a flower bed. The gateway signage and construction will cost $261,560, according to a presentation from Ishri Sankar, Tucker’s public works director.
Siggers’ owner charged with sexual battery
DeKalb District Attorney’s Office representatives stated that the two charges are misdemeanors that the Office of the Solicitor General will handle.
Siggers was charged on Friday, Nov. 21, and released on an undisclosed bond about five hours later. According to information on the DeKalb County Sheriff website, the incidents associated with the charges occurred on Dec. 2, 2023, and May 3, 2024. One date aligns with allegations filed by a former employee cited in a lawsuit filed on Aug. 14 by former Siggers apprentice Stephanie Dhondt.
