 The Dunwoody City Council at its May 27 meeting discussed renovations to a blacksmith shop at the Donaldson-Bannister Farm on the corner of Chamblee Dunwoody and Vermack Roads.

“Dunwoody Preservation Trust (DPT) has had great program success throughout the
years and is in need of additional space on the Donaldson-Bannister Farm property,” according to a staff memo regarding the funding request.

The 365-square-foot blacksmith shop is thought to be more than 100 years old.

“Renovations would allow DPT to bring in additional revenue, better manage field trip groups, and allow for future history exhibits that meet Georgia Curriculum Standards,” the staff memo said.

The Dunwoody Preservation Trust is contributing $34,600, with the city possibly providing $18,500 to reach the $53,000 needed for the project. The council will consider the expenditure at its next regular council meeting.

In other action, a frequent speaker at council meetings, Zach Humphries, told the council that he intends to run for the District 1 that is currently being held by Catherine Lautenbacher.

In other action, the council:

  • commended the latest graduates of the Dunwoody Police Citizen’s Academy;
  • presided over the swearing-in of three police officers – LaQuaisha Marshall, Alex Smith and Katherine Thielman;
  • recognized Sgt. Michael Cheek, Sgt. Anwar Silah and Officer Jakori Edwards for their academic achievements while working for the department;
  • Named Dunwoody Police Officer Eric Drum and Police Service Representative Kimberly Stone as employees the First Quarter for 2025.
