FIFA Club World Cup matches in Atlanta a precursor for 2026
Atlanta will get its first taste of global soccer excitement beginning June 16, when six matches of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament are played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The FIFA Club World Cup was created in 2000 as a tournament for the seven best individual clubs. But, for 2025, FIFA has moved to make it a marquee event held every four years, featuring 32 clubs, including the winners of the last four continental championships.
Besides Atlanta, host cities include Cincinnati, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
The matches set for Atlanta are:
- Monday, June 16, 3 p.m.: Chelsea FC (England) vs. LAFC (United States)
- Thursday, June 19, 3 p.m.: Inter Miami CF (United States) vs. FC Porto (Portugal)
- Sunday, June 22, 9 p.m.: Manchester City (England) vs. Al Ain FC (United Arab Emirates)
- Sunday, June 29, 12 p.m.: Round of 16 match
- Tuesday, July 1, 9 p.m.: Round of 16 match
- Saturday, July 5, 12 p.m.: Quarterfinal match
However, ticket sales have not met expectations for the Club World Cup with major price drops occurring over the last few months, according to Sports Illustrated.
There are several thousand seats available for the June 16 Atlanta match between Chelsea and LA priced as low as $52.40 via Ticketmaster.
An estimated 300,000 soccer fans are expected in Atlanta for the eight matches in next year’s World Cup.
The city is urging fans to take MARTA directly to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Club World Cup matches. MARTA said it will beef up opreations with additional trains before an after each game, including a pre-game shuttle train that will run between Five Points and GWCC Stations.
