Thousands celebrate Independence Day at Dunwoody 4th of July parade

Thousands turned out on a steamy July 4 to witness more than 110 entries, including bands, dinosaurs, floats and political candidates at the city’s annual 4th of July parade.
The day went off without a hitch, save an incident involving a truck that was in the parade, which hit a pedestrian and threw several children off the back of the trailer when the driver reacted by slamming on the brakes.
According to a release from Dunwoody Police, the incident occurred when a F-150 Lightning with a trailer and pedestrian were involved in a crash.
“The drivers of the vehicle paused to switch drivers and continue on in the parade. During the switch, the new driver mistakenly hit the accelerator which caused the vehicle to lunge forward,” according to the release. “The vehicle struck a pedestrian, knocking her to the ground. When the driver hit the brakes, the trailer disconnected from the truck and caused several people on the trailer to fall off.”
Several children and an adult, who were transported to local hospitals, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
“We are still actively investigating the crash and have no other information to release at this time,” the statement said. .
While medical personnel tended to the injured, the parade paused for about 10 minutes.
