Teenager dead, five wounded in southeast Atlanta park shooting

An 18-year-old was fatally shot and five other people were wounded in a shooting at Empire Park in southeast Atlanta on Thursday night.

According to the preliminary Atlanta Police Department report, officers were called to the park at 245 Oak Drive SE around 9:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old male, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 21-year-old female victim was shot in the shoulder and transported to Grady Hospital in stable condition. 

Officers were also dispatched to 50 Mt Zion Road SW around the same time regarding multiple people shot. Officers found three gunshot victims, one of which was in critical condition. 

While continuing their investigation, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Old Hapeville Road SW and Cleveland Avenue SW on a dark colored sedan. Further investigation revealed a passenger had been shot. He was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to APD, it appears all the shootings are connected to the incident at Empire Park, where a cookout had been taking place.

APD said the investigation is active and ongoing.
