Sandy Springs to add more school zone speed limit signs after complaints
Sandy Springs will install more signs warning motorists of school zones after council members received complaints about speeding tickets drivers received since the city began using speed enforcement cameras.
City Manager Eden Freeman said during the Sept. 16 city council meeting that staff would install additional signs on Dalrymple and Heards Ferry Roads, warning that speed enforcement cameras are ahead. The cameras are installed in school zones near Riverwood and North Springs high schools.
“Folks swear they’re not speeding, and it’s a tricky situation, because the goal of this is completely worthy, and there’s speeding everywhere,” Council Member Andy Bauman said.

Sandy Springs spends $2.3 million in stream credits for Hammond Drive
The Sandy Springs City Council authorized buying $2.3 million in environmental stream mitigation credits it needs to start a widening project on Hammond Drive.
Public Works Director Marty Martin told the council on Sept. 16 that the credits will offset the impact the project will have on 900 feet of stream channel. The project will enclose streams that flow down to Hammond Drive within a pipe or concrete box culvert. Transportation sales tax revenues will fund the project.
Under the Clean Water Act, the city must buy credits if a project disturbs more than 100 feet of stream channel. Martin said that the city will buy them from the Soque River Mitigation Bank in Habersham County, GA.

Sandy Springs figure skater a weekend regular at ‘Restaurant Row’
High school sophomore Jane Beeler first stepped onto the ice at Center Ice Arena in Sandy Springs in December of 2022, when the popular local skating rink was decked in holiday lights and greenery. After that initial outing with family, Beeler started skating there almost every weekend, eventually taking group and private lessons.
During the school year, she practices three to four times a week, working on footwork skills, jumps, and spins in preparation for entering her first amateur skating competitions in 2026.
After a hard session on the ice, Beeler usually grabs a post-skate snack or meal at one of the food vendors, supermercados, or restaurants near the rink, including her favorite restaurant, SATÉ Banh Mi & Grille. SATÉ is one of 120 independent restaurants in Sandy Springs situated along a 10-mile stretch of Roswell Road known locally as “Restaurant Row.”
This article is part of The Regulars series, where Rough Draft freelance journalist Laura Scholz explores what it means to be a frequent restaurant patron.
