The Brookhaven Police Department arrested five people – one juvenile and four adults – early Wednesday morning following a swift response to reports of vehicle break-ins at Avana Uptown Apartments, 2910 Clairmont Rd.
According to a release from the department, about 4:47 a.m. on November 13, officers responded to calls reporting multiple suspects attempting to enter vehicles in the apartment complex’s parking deck. Upon arrival, officers observed two vehicles fleeing the scene.
“The lead officer successfully blocked the first vehicle, preventing its escape. The driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to enter a second suspect vehicle already occupied by multiple individuals,” the release said. “Officers quickly established control of the situation and took all five suspects into custody without incident.”
During the investigation, officers recovered firearms, burglary tools, and other equipment. Detectives believe the group may be connected to additional offenses at other locations before this incident, the release said.
“Brookhaven officers acted quickly and decisively, preventing these individuals from escaping and putting a stop to their criminal activity,” said Brookhaven Chief of Police Brandon Gurley. “Our priority has always been to protect our community, and this case shows how effective teamwork and immediate police response can make a real difference in keeping our residents safe.”
