Arrest made in June 14 shooting of teenager near Buford Highway

An arrest has been made by the Brookhaven Police Department in connection with the June 14 fatal shooting of a 16-year-old man on Clairmont Road near Buford Highway.

BPD detectives arrested Enrique Mendoza, 18, of Riverdale, GA, on June 30. According to DeKalb County Jail records, Mendoza was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault with a weapon.

BPD released details stating a breakthrough in the case came after investigators received an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta, providing instrumental information in identifying Mendoza as the primary suspect.

“This arrest would not have been possible without the support of Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta and the community,” Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said. “We are grateful to those who came forward with information, and we hope this brings some measure of comfort to the victim’s family.”

The investigation remains active, and additional arrests or charges are possible as investigators continue to review evidence and interview witnesses, BPD said.
