Brookhaven pools and splash pads set to open for summer

Brookhaven pools and splash pads are preparing to open for the summer with an emphasis on safety.
The city issued information about hours of operation, summer passes, and swim programs as well as a graphic specifying what to wear – and what not to wear – at the pool this summer.
City staff said the dress code has been in place for years to keep the water clean for swimmers. Cotton and other materials can damage the pool filtration systems, which would transmit bacteria and other germs. Patrons who do not follow the policy will not be allowed into the pool, the city said.

Acceptable attire includes bathing suits, swim diapers, swim trunks, and modest swimwear in approved fabrics. Unacceptable attire is thong bikinis, workout attire, cotton tee-shirts, cut-off jean shorts, basketball shorts, and underwear.
“To ensure pool accessibility for everyone, new and gently used swimwear items are being collected for the convenience of pool-goers lacking proper attire,” the city said in a release. Donations boxes can be found at the Lynwood Park Recreation Center, City Hall, the PEP Building, and the Public Safety Building.
The splash pad at Ashford Park, 2980 Redding Road, will open on Tuesday, May 13. The splash pad is closed on Mondays for maintenance and rentals. The splash pad will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Brookhaven is hosting “Back to Pool: Splash into Summer” outside of the Briarwood Park Recreation Center. The event will include a fashion show, games, and free popsicles and snacks.
The city’s pools will open for the season at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 24 at Lynwood Park, 3360 Osborne Road, Briarwood Park, 2235 Briarwood Way, and Murphey Candler Park, 1551 West Nancy Creek Drive. All three pools will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The city is offering a deal on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday: $1 admission and $5 off pool memberships. Season memberships are available for purchase at Lynwood Recreation Center or online.
Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Director Michael King said he’s looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another fun pool season.
