
Thirteen Cross Keys High School students participated in the inaugural swearing-in ceremony for DeKalb County School District (DCSD) students who have pledged to serve the United States Armed Forces.
DCSD recognized approximately 200 scholars who have pledged to serve in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, or Space Force. The event took place on Thursday, April 24 at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia.
The Cross Keys High School students who were recognized:

- Eduardo Chavez-Aparicia: Marine Corps
- Mia Chino: Marine Corps
- Tasmeatul Faraje: Army National Guard
- Margarita Mendiola-Santoyo: Marine Corps
- Andres Parra-Trejo: Marine Corps
- Yamileth Perez-Perez: Army
- Brian Portales-Cruz: Marine Corps
- Aldahir Ramirez-Ignacio: Marine Corps
- Ashley Tizol-Polanco: Marine Corps
- Emmanuel Valdivia-Mendoza: Marine Corps
- Angel Vanquez-Gomez: Army
DCSD Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton expressed his pride in the students and support for their future.
“This ceremony reflects our commitment to ensuring that every graduate leaves DeKalb County equipped with the skills, competencies, and qualities outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate, along with a clear plan for their future, whether that path involves military enlistment, enrollment in further education, employment, or entrepreneurship,” Horton said.
This weekend, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff and Georgia’s congressional delegation will host Military Service Academy Day at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.
Scheduled for Saturday, April 26, Military Service Academy Day gives high school students and their families the opportunity to learn more about the application and nomination process for the five U.S. Service Academies. Students and families will be able to meet with representatives from all five academies, along with ROTC representatives from the Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marine Corps, according to a press release.
