North Springs High School opened The Link in 2023, as one of Fulton County School’s Student and Family Engagement Centers (SAFE). According to the release, the school operates under the principles of the Community School Model, which emphasizes the importance of partnerships that help remove barriers to student and family success. The Link provides a free grocery store, laundry services, clothing, hygiene items, and mental health services, enriched learning time, and active family and community engagement with community partners.
According to the release, a community survey revealed that the school’s monthly food distribution held on the second Thursday of each month has served many families. However, time and transportation challenges have limited participation among broader segments of the community. That led The Link and its partners to go beyond the school walls to bring vital resources directly to where families live. They are starting with the Azalea Park Apartment Complex.
The management team at Azalea Park is partnering with North Springs to help address food insecurity among local residents. They offered space and logistical support to make this outreach event happen.
“This is what the community school model is all about — meeting families where they are and working together to make a difference,” said Diahann Fulwider, who serves as one of the event coordinators, according to the release. “When schools, community organizations, and city leaders unite for a common cause, we demonstrate that we are truly stronger together.”
