A Sandy Springs woman has been charged with murder after her 11-year-old daughter was found dead in her residence on Nov. 15.

Sandy Springs Police officers were dispatched to the Laurel Grove Condominiums at 346 Carpenter Drive NE in Sandy Springs on Saturday morning, Nov. 15. Sgt. Leon Millholland, the SSPD public information officer, said that a concerned family member had requested a welfare check.

Upon arriving at the residence, officers found Shannon Grimes in her residence with her deceased 11-year-old daughter, Millholland said in a release.

Sandy Springs Police detectives were notified and took charge of the investigation. Grimes was arrested. Detectives waited for her release from a local hospital to speak with her, Millholland said.

Once she was released from the hospital on Monday night, she was charged with malice murder, felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and tampering with evidence.

Grimes is being held in the Fulton County Jail.

The investigation continues.
