
The merchandise shelves at the Buford Highway Kroger were mostly stripped of merchandise as the store prepares to close on Oct. 17.
Bargain hunters who wanted deals on batteries, paper towels, apples, eggs, toilet paper, or bananas were in luck, but for the most part, the interior aisles of the store were empty or taped off, a visit to the store revealed.
About a dozen store employees wearing green shirts were seen huddled around the remaining merchandise on the afternoon of Oct. 16. A cashier said most of the store’s employees had obtained positions at other Kroger locations, with several moving to the one at 3871 Peachtree Road.

Kroger had announced earlier that the Cincinnati-based company would close about 60 unprofitable stores nationwide, including four in metro Atlanta.
Locations at Morosgo Way in Atlanta, Douglas Road in Alpharetta, and Memorial Drive in Decatur have already shuttered.
The closest grocery store to 60,000 square-foot Skye Hill Kroger is Aldi at the intersection of Clairmont and Buford Highway, about 0.3 miles away.
The shopping center will now only have two tenants, Chase Bank and Donnie’s Country Cookin,’ after Kroger closes.
