For the second time in a week, DeKalb County Board of Education will meet in a closed, executive session, presumably related to the DCSD’s former superintendent federal indictment.
The meeting, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, will discuss permitted matters regarding land, legal, litigation, personnel, and student appeals, according to the agenda, which can be found here.
On Oct. 29, Deirdre Pierce, DeKalb schools’ board chair, announced after an executive session a board directive to gather proposals from “multiple firms for a forensic audit.” The board unanimously approved the proposal plan for the audit of former superintendent Devon Q. Horton, who was indicted on 17 wire fraud and embezzlement charges last month.
During the Oct. 29 session, the board discussed potential vendors for the forensic audit of district contracts and purchases that originated from the former superintendent’s office. A recommendation for a vendor could be presented this month, Carla Parker, DeKalb County Schools spokeswoman said in a statement on Oct. 29.
A forensic audit will determine whether Horton, whose annual base salary as of July 2025 was $360,000, misused his school system purchasing card.

The board also met on Oct. 29 to review recommendations and consider public comment on its B policy, which pertained to topics like school choice and transportation, naming rights of donors, and the school system’s AI policy. Many of the recommendations were slated for a vote during the board’s regular meeting, which is scheduled for Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m.
Though the executive session will be closed, the board will share information publicly at the end of the session. That portion of the meeting can be viewed on DeKalb Schools TV (DSTV) at this link: www.dekalbschoolsga.org/communications/dstv.
